Dr. Thorne uses a cognitive-behavioral theoretical framework for treating such disorders as anxiety and depression. Within this frame, the client identifies their negative thoughts that then lead to feelings of anxiety and depression, and is subsequently taught to replace these thoughts with more productive ones that lead to success. The framework has been shown in the research to be as effective as medication therapy. A consultation with family members is the first step in the therapeutic process. Additionally, Dr. Thorne uses techniques such as desensitization to treat specific types of anxiety such as school phobia or test anxiety. This therapy is also research-based.
